Calls on the Member States to modernise their education systems, particularly in the scientific field; encourages greater consultation and closer partnerships between businesses and universities in order to ensure that the skills acquired in the course of studies correspond as closely as possible to the requirements of the various sectors of the economy; stresses that it is important to improve the attractiveness of European higher education institutions for researchers and, for that purpose, supports making the European ‘Marie Curie’ scholarships system permanent, as it plays an essential role in encouraging researcher mobility within the European Union;
