Calls on Member States to introducemplement legislation to protect or increase maternity and paternity rights; and to safeguard the return to work for women after pregnancy and maternity leave; on this regard, strongly opposes the Commission´s intention to withdraw the Maternity Leave Directive and calls on the Council to engage proactively with the Parliament and Commission in order to unblock the Maternity Leave Directive; stresses furthermore that reinforcing legislation on paternity leave which gives an important boost to combat gender and pay discrimination in work;
