2. Recalls that the Member States should support initiatives that facilitate the development of sectors with high employment potential and, in particular, that aid in the transformation towards a sustainable economy and the creation of green jobs; calls on local and regional authorities to coordinate public service provisions with environmental targets and objectives in order to achieve multiple objectives and stimulate green jobs in the process;

Recalls that improved implementation of EU legislation on waste will contribute to economic development, and thus to job creation; stresses that recycling – aand re-use – both labour- intensive sectors – can be an important sources of jobs and should be favoured where most appropriate in the revised EU waste framework;

Underlines the fact that appropriate levels of training and skills are needed for eco-innovations to flourish, and for EU waste legislation to be implemented correctly; recalls, in this context, that the European Social Fund could be helpful in preparing the labour force for an increased demand for green jobs by promoting vocational training and work based learning.
