Welcomes the proposed EU accession to the Istanbul Convention and calls for the EU and the Member States to ratify the Istanbul Convention as soon as possible; underlines that the Istanbul Convention is the most comprehensive, modern tool available for prevention, protection and collection of data on Violence against Women (VAW) and deplores that only 14 Member States have ratified it so far;

Underlines that the gender pay gap, which currently is at 16% in average in the EU, embodies an inadmissible discrimination and runs counter to the EU Treaties (Article 157 TFEU); urges the Member States to ensure that the principle of equal pay for equal work is applied in all segments of the labour market;
