Underlines the importance of commitment to the process of completing the Banking Union and the need to ensure openness and equal treatment of all Member States participating in the Banking Union; reminds that an effective and proportionate European deposit insurance scheme is the remaining pillar of the EU’s banking Union; stresses that risk sharing must go in hand with risk reduction, most notably a reduction of non-performing loans and a different prudential treatment of sovereign debt on the balance sheet of credit institutions.

Stresses that an ageing population and other demographic developments present a major challenge to sustainability of public finances, therefore emphasises the need for sustainable and adequate pensions; considering the economic and fiscal constraints of 1st pillar PAYG pensions, complementary retirement savings have to play a greater role in securing the future adequacy of pensions.
