1. Believes that the EU needs to increase its production in the aquaculture sector, whilein particular with the aim of reducing pressure on natural fishing grounds, taking quality, sustainability and environmental aspects into account and being a role model in this regard;

Is convinced that the use of different international experience and the promotion of European best practicesof well planned aqua farms integrated into local economies and the promotion of European environmental best practices, in particular as regards sustainable waste management, safeguarding and making the most of local biodiversity, and choice of sustainable eating habits, would strengthen aquaculture and would help all Member States to increase sustainable aquaculture production;
