Regrets that gender equality has not yet been reached in many areas; stresses that women still suffer from discrimination and social exclusion as exemplified by their low representation in the decision- making process, both in the private andsector and in the public sectors, and by the persisting gender pay gap and at work, by the fact that they still do not have the necessary guarantees making for an untroubled work-life balance, and by the persisting gender pay gap, which makes them unquestionably more vulnerable to the risk of material insecurity and poverty in old age;

Welcomes the proposed EU accession to the Istanbul Convention and, demonstrating a steadfast and unwavering commitment to combating a human rights violation that is still occurring in Europe on an intolerable scale, given that 62 million women have suffered violence; calls for the EU and the Member States to ratify the Istanbul Convention as soon as possible;
