Considers that the protection of copyrights is at the core of CCS revenue and welcomes the new copyright directive proposal and its measures to protect news publishers,an up-to-date and consistent copyright legal framework is vital for increasing access to culture and guaranteeing a competitive digital marketplace in which artists, authors and performers are fairly compensated; acknowledges, in this regard, the political will behind the new copyright directive proposal, i.e. closeing the value gap between creative industries and digital platforms and increaseing transparency and balance in the contractual relations of authors and performers; stresses that it is vital to create a fair digital marketplace in which creators are fairly compensatedregrets, however, the fact that certain provisions contained herein, i.e. filter mechanisms and the neighbouring right for press publishers, could have the effect of hampering freedom of expression online and hindering the dissemination of information and content, rather than achieve its intended goals;
