1. Stresses that in the last few years cohesion policy has become the main EU investment policy and a tool for attaining the general political objectives of the Union in addition to the specific goals enshrined in the Treaties; is of the opinion that cohesion policy post 2020 should continue to serve this purposereduce regional disparities while promoting economic, social and territorial cohesion among all regions across the EU and remain a policy for all Member States and regions; considers, therefore, that its share in the total EU budget should be maintained in the future;
