Underlines that, according to WHO figures, road transport contributes to air and noise pollution, with a negative impact on citizens’ health, especially in urban areas; stresses that air pollution reduces life expectancy and that over 30% of the European population is exposed to traffic noise higher than the 55 Ldn dB standard; encourages the implementation of an effective strategy to reduce the level of pollutants such as NOx, NO2 and particulate matter;
