Congratulates the ASEAN member states on the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and fully supports all efforts for regional integration; expresses equally its appreciation for 40 years of EU-ASEAN relations and reiterates its recommendation that relations should be upgraded into a Strategic Partnership; stresses that a Strategic Partnership with ASEAN will be an opportunity for the EU to reinforce its positioning in Asia but also a chance to play a greater role in the region and foster its objectives of peace, the rule of law, democracy and human rights, maritime safety and resource sharing;
