Welcomes the inclusion of the SDGs in the Environmental Implementation Review; calls for a series of annualregular reports to Parliament on the EU’s progress in SDG implementation; asks that Parliament become a partner in the process, particularly in the second work stream post-2020; calls for annual dialogue and reporting between Parliament and the Commission resulting in the production of a report; urges that the results should be both transparent and easily understandable and communicable for a wide range of audiences;

Welcomes recent developments around resource and waste efficiency and the circular economy; calls on the Commission to retain an upward trajectory with targets while supporting and guiding Member States as regards achieving waste reduction; points out the enormous differences in the possibilities for selective waste collection between Member States today and calls for those differences to be taken into account when creating EU law; calls on the Commission to come up with an ambitious and comprehensive strategy on plastics while also keeping with the 2020 target for environmentally sound management of chemicals;

Recalls that the 2030 Climate and Energy framework sets targets for a reduction in GHG emissions of at least 40 %, meeting at least 27 % of EU energy demand with renewables, and increasing energy efficiency by at least 30 %; requests the Commission to undertake a study to ascertain whether these targets will be sufficient to help the EU meet the SDGs and its commitments under the Paris Agreementtakes the view that in order for the EU to achieve its SDG goals and fulfil its commitments under the Paris Agreement, those objectives must be pursued in a cost- effective manner that meets the needs of the poorer regions and takes into account the specific regional and national characteristics within the EU itself;

Calls on the Commission to produce a report on the flagship EU carbon reduction scheme (the EU Emissions Trading Scheme - EU ETS) in order to ascertain whether the current trajectoryNotes that the long-term commitment laid down in the Paris Agreement is to strike a balance between anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and their absorption, known as 'climate neutrality'; calls, therefore, for an increase to the potential for greductions will be enough to help the EU meet the SDGs and its commitments under the Paris Agreementenhouse gases to be absorbed by land and marine ecosystems; notes that the EU legal system must not discourage the development of absorption capacity, e.g. through policies that discourage afforestation and proper forest management practices;

Implores the Commission to continue stepping up action on serious measures to tackle poor air quality; points out in this context that network heating is one of the most effective methods of reducing 'low emissions', which in many regions remain the main cause of poor air quality; recognises that the SDGs regarding health and sustainable living cannot be achieved without such action;
