3b. Recalls that one of the main goals of the Europe 2020 strategy is reducing poverty and social exclusion by at least 20 million people and that still more efforts are needed to reach that goal; believes that minimum income schemes can be a helpful way to reach this objective;

Draws attention to the fact that despithe recent gradual economic slowdown, with risingrevival, some Member States still suffer from ever-lasting high unemployment and fewer job opportunities, what puts many people at risk of poverty and, social exclusion, and that this is particularly acute in some Member States that suffer from high rates of unemployment or long- term inactivity;
