Calls on the Commission to ensure that all the necessary data on recreational fisheries are collected in order to provide a complete evaluation of fish stocks; cautions that without such a comprehensive evaluation, the multiannual plans might not achieve the objectives of the CFP;highlights the importance of the EMFF in helping to develop scientific capacity in the Member States, through their universities and public institutes, guaranteeing full and reliable assessments of maritime resources for both recreational and non-recreational fishing activities;

Points out that, outside the context of normal management of fishery resources based on substantive scientific data, the development of recreational fishing activities must not mean a reduction in professional fishing opportunities or a sharing of scarce resources between professional and recreational activities, especially in the case of small-scale and artisanal fishing;
