Laments the increase in abandonment of – and scrub encroachment on – farmland, which, given in addition that game and wild animal habitats are being altered and, moreover, sheep. goats, and cattle are increasingly being attacked by wild predators, adversely affects not just the landscape, but also water management, biodiversity and energy generation; urges the Commission and Member States to ensure that land and forests are managed in an environmentally friendly way that is adapted to local conditions and to encourage such a development so as to preserve cultural assets and biodiversity;
