Encourages the Member States and the Commission to promote the importance of the sustainable forest-based bioeconomy and of wood as one of the EU’s crucial renewable raw materials; draws attention to the increasing demand for forest biomass, which means that even greater attention needs to be paid to sustainable forest management, as the inappropriate management of forests can lead to their degradation, which may have a negative impact on biodiversity and the ecosystem function of forests, including the absorption of CO2 from the atmosphere;

Believes that feedstock such as wheat, maize and, sugar beet, etc. could also be used as an energy resource in the production of biofuels and bioethanol in cases of market oversupply of such agricultural products, which would maintain sustainable purchase prices and thereby ensure stability of farmers’ incomes.
