Calls on the Commission to disseminate best practices for the transportation of livestock to Member States; welcomes the cases where governments, scientists, businesses, industry representatives and national competent authorities have worked together to define best practices in order to ensure compliance with the requirements of the legislation;

Considers that in certain cases any reduction in permitted journey times of travel, as is currently outlined in Annex 1, Chapter V of Regulation (EC) 1/2005, would not be viable, and therefore consideration should be given in cases where geographical circumstances and rural isolation require the transport of live animals over land and/or sea for further production or slaughter;
