26. Stresses that measures must be based on scientific evidence and calls on all relevant players to ensure that actions taken do not jeopardise access to safe and effective pharmaceutical treatments for human patients and animals; in this regard, supports the Commission’s intention to reduce waste by allowing that medicines be dispensed in quantities better matching needs, whilst ensuring compliance with current traceability legislation, including by optimising the package size, and to explore the possibility to extend expiry dates for medicines to avoid that medicines that can still be safely used are unnecessarily thrown away;
