Calls on the European Union to promote a rights-based approach to access to water and sanitation in its external action in accordance with the UN-declared Water Action Decade 2018-2028, and in keeping with Sustainable Development Goal 6, particularly at the next World Water Forum, in Dakar, and the high-level international conference on water in Dushanbe in 2022 and the high- level UN conference on the Water Action Decade in New York in 2023;

Stresses the need to support small projects, including those in rural areas, and to pay particular attention to women and, who in developing countries are often responsible for fetching water and are severely impacted by the economic and social consequences of climate change, as well as to the most vulnerable local communities as regards access to water and sanitation.
