(4 a) Standards can have a broad impact on society, in particular on the safety and well-being of citizens, in many public policy fields. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the role and the input of all relevant stakeholders representing the public and societal interest in the elaboration of standards is strengthened. A clarification of the framework is therefore necessary in order to ensure transparency and impartiality in the decisions taken. Consequently, internal governance of European standardisation bodies shall take into account the views of every relevant stakeholders, in particular public authorities and civil society organisations.
