Notes that professional athletes’ have to spent many hours a day for training, while following an overall disciplined way of life in the long-term leaving no-time for other professions, occupations, education or preparation for another career development; yet, there are MS where professional athletes, although called professionals, do not have access to social protection mechanisms, pension rights and overall labour protection, as they are not considered at all as workers; calls on MS and the Commission to take specific measures in order to ensure equal social and labour protection for athletes as for all European citizens;
