Suggests examining the introduction of a legislation addressing threats to media independence through EU-wide minimum standards to protect whistle-blowers, journalistic sources and editors; such legislation should include a review of the media business model to ensure the integrity and independence of the EU media market especially for broadcast formats and media companies that have taken responsibility for shaping a European public sphere as proposed in point 27.1 CoFE;
