Recalls, in that regard, that Marine Protected Areas not only protect marine ecosystems but also play a role in climate mitigation and adaptation and contributing to healthy and resilient oceans; reiterates the call of the Commission, in its 2030 biodiversity strategy, to have at least 30 % of sea area in the EU protected, including through fish stock recovery areas as provided for under the CFP, and areas where the most destructive fishing techniques and economic activities are restricted; and a high level of protection for at least 10% of EU waters;
