Urges the Commission, in developing the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies, to take practical steps to maintain the rural population and support the local economy; calls on the Commission to harness both strategies to improve the way in which the agricultural sector and rural areas are perceived, bearing in mind that lack of knowledge about agriculture is responsible for a number of misconceptions regarding the work done by farmers and their contribution to the environment;
