Considers it important that individual tourism offerings should have their own distinctive identity deriving in each instance from a strategy based on local and national peculiarities and the specialisation associated with them, and on the resources available; accordingly calls on the Commission and the Member States to promote sustainable forms of tourism and eco-tourism, not least through innovative marketing strategies which should focus on traditional characteristics and which should be continuously monitored with a view to balancing supply and demand; stresses, in this context, the importance of encouraging the development of quality labels;
