– the increasing breadth and intensity of operations of Chinese Government vessels and aircraft intimidating China’s neighbours, which violate peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and surrounding international waters, and impede the Freedom of Navigation (FON) rights of all other parties; strongly condemns statements by the Chinese President that the People’s Republic of China will never renounce the right to use force with respect to Taiwan, and insists that the use of coercive measures to achieve unification contradicts international law; denounces the government-led system of forced labour and China’s crimes against humanity in Xinjiang;

Reiterates that a peaceful, stable and rules-based Indo-Pacific is of vital European interest; encourages, to this end, closer foreign, security and defence policy ties with like-minded partners in the region in line with the EU strategy for cooperation in the Indo-Pacific; encourages the VP/HR to promote the visibility and effect of the EU’s external action together with our Indo-Pacific partners, particularly Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan and JapTaiwan;

30. Reiterates that Taiwan is a key EU partner and a democratic ally in the Indo- Pacific region; encourages continued exchanges between the EU and Taiwan at all levels of interactions, including regular dialogues, and emphasises that any attempt from authoritarian regimes to restrict the benign development of EU- Taiwan relations is not acceptable; recognises the importance of Taiwan in securing global supply chains, especially in the high-tech sector, and urges the EU and its Member States to engage in closer cooperation with Taiwan; calls for the EU and its Member States to ensure, through clear and consistent signalling, that any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, particularly by means of force or coercion, cannot be accepted and will have high costs; highlights that China’s territorial claims have no basis in international law and that only Taiwan’s democratically elected government can represent the Taiwanese people; denounces, furthermore, China’s blocking of Taiwan’s meaningful participation in multilateral organisations by its continuous distortion of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758; calls on the Commission and the Member States to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in relevant international organisations; calls on the Commission to strengthen cooperation in order to further boost economic, trade and investment ties with Taiwan, and furthermore, launch, without delay, preparatory measures for negotiations on an economic partnership agreement as a framework to establish cooperation in areas of priority and mutual interest;
