Calls for an increase in the Horizon Europe research budget for agriculture; emphasizes the vital role of innovation and digitization for a more competitive and sustainable agriculture, as well as the importance of digital transformatnd in particular funding for research and development of biotechnology technologies in the light of the upcoming regulations concerning new genome editing techniques that are crucial for climate adaptation, reducing the use of crop protection, thus securing Europe’s leading position in agricultural innovation and its global long-term competitiveness, while contributing to the Union’s objective of strategic autonomy, as recognised in the political guidelines of Ursula von der Leyen for the next Commission;
