Paragraph 11 a (new)
11 a. Acknowledges the drastic implications of Russian war on employment and social protection for individuals in EU frontier regions bringing economic instability, job losses, decrease of investments and diminished opportunities for local populations; recognises that many businesses, especially those reliant on cross-border trade or tourism, have faced closures or severe downturns due to heightened insecurity and supply chain interruptions; underlines that the influx of refugees fleeing the conflict has placed additional strains on local social services, challenging the capacity of these regions to provide adequate support and exacerbated existing problems, leading to increased unemployment rates, reduced access to essential services, and a decline in overall social cohesion, as communities grapple with the dual challenge of addressing immediate humanitarian needs while navigating a precarious economic landscape; calls on the Commission to urgently address the detrimental impacts of the ongoing war on employment and social protection in EU frontier regions with the use of the ESF+ and fostering collaboration among member states to restore cohesion and resilience in these affected communities.
