-4) In Article 12 the following paragraph is added: "1a. Member States may entrust management and labour at the relevant level, according to national legislation and practice in the individual Member States, with upholding or concluding collective agreements that lay down detailed rules on improvements in the safety and health at work of pregnant workers and workers who have recently given birth or are breastfeeding. These collective agreements, and agreements existing on ...*, as well as any subsequent renewals of such agreements, may, on the condition that they respect the general protection of the safety and health at work of pregnant workers and workers who have recently given birth or are breastfeeding (subject to the conditions and limitations laid down by the Member States), establish arrangements and provisions which are different from those referred to in this Directive, provided that they comply with and respect the intentions and principles of the Directive."
