Points out that investment in research and development in the automobile sector must aim primarily to reduce the use of resources and greenhouse gas emissions but also to speed up the development and deployment of a new generation of low- or zero-emission vehicles such as electric and hybrid vehicles and associated infrastructure. This can be achieved in particular by technological developments to improve vehicle engines, batteries, weight and aerodynamics and also by the development of alternative and sustainable fuels.
