Calls on the UK and all other Member States in which such problems may have arisen to simplify the registration formalities relating to the participation of nationals of other Member States in the European elections, whether as voters or as candidates, in particular by removing unnecessary administrative barriers so as to make the rights referred to under Article 20(2)(a) and (b) TFEU effective; requests that the Commission ensure that the practices of the Member States comply with EU law;

K. whereas the UK Electoral Commission has reported that, owing to the complexity of the registration formalities in use, a number of nationals of other Member States who are resident in the UK could not exercise their right to vote at the last European election; whereas such complexity may also affect the right to stand as a candidate in elections to the European Parliament;
