Maintains that destigmatising mental illness involves ensuring the provision of treatment which is appropriate and has no adverse effects on individuals' personality by abandoning the use of devastating and invasive treatment such as electroconvulsive therapy in favour of the beneficial practices followed in those Member States which have closed controversial institutions such as asylums and encourage the integration of people with mental health problems by providing care in patients' homes;
