Calls on the Commission to propose specific initiatives within the context of the European Year of Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity 2012 dedicated to the activities of older women, in order to enhance their contribution to social and territorial cohesion; to promote flexible retirement solutions and combine pensions with part-time work in order to encourage them to stay in the labour market for longer; emphasises that the principle of solidarity between generations is one of the keystones of regional social cohesion and the European social model;
