Calls on the Commission to ensure that the better management of marine data, proposed within the "Marine Knowledge 2020" Communication, COM (2010) 461, and the proposed Regulation establishing a Programme to support the further development of an Integrated Maritime Policy, COM(2010) 494, takes account of the need to guarantee appropriate monitoring of pollution threats in order to determine the appropriate course of action in a timely manner;

Asks the Commission to prepare a proposal for scientific knowledge generated by off-shore operators who work under a public licence to be made available to the responsible authorities using standards and protocols developed within the context of "Marine Knowledge 2020" in order to facilitate public scrutiny and to further understanding of the marine environment;
