In this context considers that the European Union's rural development policy plays a particularly important role in ensuring fair earnings for farmers by increasing the competitiveness of the farming sector, for example through the introduction and development of new technologies and procedures, product diversification, the promotion of investments in farming, etc.; takes the view that rural development policies are necessary particularly in the new Member States; stresses in this context the need for future CAP appropriations to include adequate funding earmarked for this objective;
