Underlines that the Iranian nuclear programme endangers the non-proliferation system and stability in the region; supports the objective, pursued jointly by both partners, of finding a negotiated solution with Iran, following the dual strategy of dialogue and sanctions, in coordination with other members of the Security Council; considers that any initiatives that one of the partners may launch concerning Iran must be closely coordinated between them in a spirit of trust and transparency; considers that the European Union and the USA should enter into a dialogue with all the countries in the region, including the Iranian government, to explore ways and means of building a system of collective security and cooperation in the region with the aim of creating a nuclear- weapons-free zone in the Middle East;
