Welcomes the progress towards the EU target whereby renewables are to account for 20% of gross final energy consumption by 2020, especially in the heating and cooling and electricity generation sectors; recalls that for electricity from renewable sources to be fully integrated, development of network infrastructure and a sufficient number of interconnections is advisable;

Supports the measures adopted in some Member States to improve support mechanisms for renewable energy sources, directing these mechanisms more towards their progressive integration into the market, taking account of the maturity of the different technologies and ensuring that consumers benefit from technological progress;
