Stresses the importance of the prompt entry into force of the EU-US Extradition and Legal Assistance Agreement, and urges those Member States that have not yet ratified it to do so as soon as possible; stresses at the same time that the US needs to explicitly halt its policy of extraordinary rendition, and calls on the US to exercise restraint in issuing requests for the extradition of EU citizens;

Welcomes the recent extension of the visa waiver programme to another six EU Member States; however, deems it inappropriate for the US to obtain access to the internal security databases of those Member States that are parties to the Schengen Agreement and calls once again on the US to lift the visa regime for the remaining six Member States and to treat all EU-citizens equally and on the basis of full reciprocity; asks the Commission to treat this as a priority matter with the new US administration;
