Calls uponUrges the Commission to respond by 2010June 2009 at the latest to two essential objectives which the Commission set itself in 2004, namely to make members of the general public aware of environmental pollution and the impact thereof on their health, and to reconsider and adapt European risk- reduction policy; strongly encourages the Commission to implement the few practical measures set out in its action plan;

Advises the Commission to envisage (by 2010 andJune 2009 at the latest under the ‘second round’ of the health and environment action plan and with a view to the fifth ministerial conference in late 2009) refocusing its initiatives on vulnerable populations and to devise new methods of risk-assessment, taking into account the fundamental fact that children are particularly vulnerable;
