Notes with concern the environmental impact of marine litter in all European sea basins and calls on the Commission and Member States to focus on the full implementation of the relevant EU directives, such as those on waste management, port reception facilities for ship-generated waste, water quality and marine strategy; criticises the fact that shortcomings in the recycling of raw materials and rare earth materials are contributing to an increase in waste; calls, therefore, for tough measures to improve recycling industries capable of offering an alternative to the intensive exploitation of underwater resources;
