Welcomes the commitment of Latvia, with the help of Poland, to lead the regional programme on education; regards investment in education as the best way to improve the socio-economic situation of the region; welcomes the fact that there is near parity in the number of females and males completing primary and secondary school education; underlines the importance of women having access to professional training and university education, particularly in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, where a significant gap still exists between the number of females and males enrolled in tertiary education;
