Underlines that such an agreement must be comprehensive, ambitious and fully binding in all its commercial provisions; stresses an FTA must lead to a genuine openness on the ground for EU businesses rather than just a hypothetical, legal openness; considers that if, during the negotiations, Japan does not demonstrate sufficient ambitionthe Commission, in agreement with the Council and the European Parliament, should identify the specific objectives to be achieved during the first year of negotiations, including a number of those requested by the various European economic sectors as part of the scoping exercise; considers that if, during the negotiations, Japan does not demonstrate sufficient ambition to achieve the Commission’s priority demands established as specific commitments with a clear agenda, the Commission should suspend negotiations after consultations with the European Parliament and the Council;
