Notes that the transportation of animals is a recognised factor in the spread of infectious disease and that EFSA recommends that transportation should be limited as much as possible for this reason; therefore, a short, maximum journey limit for animals intended for slaughter would reduce the risk of disease spread and should be considered a priority due to the economic and health risk posed by infectious disease.
