1. Believes that EU policies and the EU budget should make a substantial contribution to the revitalisation of sustainable growth in the EU and to addressing major societal challenges such as resource scarcity and climate change;

Notes the pivotal role of EU flagship programmes such as Horizon 2020, COSME and the Connecting Europe Facility; calls for more substantial resources to be mobilised in order to boost the green economysustainable development as a key driver for future competitiveness and resilience; stresses that this must done in synergy with cohesion policy and must not harm the cohesion of the Union;
