6a. Emphasises that sport is of particular importance in creating a European identity and developing a sense of EU citizenship; is of the opinion that sport is a powerful force for social integration; is, furthermore, of the opinion that, in view of the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, hopefully in the near future, cutting resources in the 2010 budget cannot be justified, but rather preparatory actions must continue unabated so that the new tasks in the field of sports can be tackled.
