1. Points out that, as a consequence of the economic crisis, unemployment and social hardship are still increasing in a number of Member States and women are particularly affected, and therefore calls on the European Union to reinforce its commitment to eradicating poverty and social exclusion, particularly child poverty, as extreme poverty and social exclusion constitute a violation of human rightsconsiders that, in addition to a livelihood, access to education and the labour market and participation in society are the bases for a dignified standard of living;

Calls on the Commission and Council to develop and implement as a matter of urgency a strategy to halve child poverty by 2012, and emphasises in consequence the need to mainstream individual children’s rights in all EU policies and measures tbreak the poverty spiral; considers that children from poor households in which no monitor and evaluate measures undertaken to end child poverty, to ide works must receive special attentifyon and develop priority actions, to enhance data collection and to further develop common indicators at EU levelsupport, in order to prevent female poverty in future;
