Supports the Commission’s intention to remove barriers to the free movement of data and data services and disproportionate data localisation requirements by linking the European Cloud Initiative to the free flow of data proposal; considers that, in order to achieve a digital society, the free flow of data must be regarded as the fifth freedom within the Single Market; points out that this digital revolution must benefit EU businesses and citizens and be carried out in strict compliance with European personal data protection requirements;

HighlightsDeplores the fact that at present only 12% of the financing committed under the European Fund for Strategic Investments goes to digital-related actions; urges the Commission to present targeted steps which could enhance the involvement of the EFSI in DSM-related projects and projects focusing on providing infrastructure funding for the digital economy, including data-sharing initiatives and digital accessibility;
