Calls on the Member States to take action to ensure fair access for women to social security and pension systems, and to ensure that the principle of equal treatment between women and men, not only in connection with age, is applied consistently in pension insurance schemes by reviewing the duration of notional contributions for periods spent as carers;

Emphasises the importance of the structural funds, in particular the European Social Fund, as a key tool for assisting Member States to combat poverty and social exclusion; calls on the Member States for more co-funded actions to support services such as care facilities for children and for elderly and dependent persons, also by testing new forms of public-private organisational and financial cooperation and new arrangements for such cooperation;

Welcomes the establishment of a European microfinance facility for employment and social inclusion; calls in this framework for specifically tailored actions, in particular technical assistance and back-up measures, oriented towards ensuring increased access and availability of microfinance for women who face difficulties entering the labour market or want to establish themselves as self- employed workers or launch their own micro-enterprises;
