– demands on the Member States to provide law enforcement staff with clear instructions on how to proceed in cases of gender-based violence and to provide the necessary training on the prevention and detection of gender-based violence, equality between men and women and the needs and rights of victims; law enforcement staff should also be allocated the necessary resources to allow them to achieve maximum effectiveness of intervention in such cases, especially as regards implementation and monitoring of the judicial measures adopted to protect victims of domestic violence, the aim throughout being to guarantee their safety and ensure that they are not forced to leave their homes against their will,

Calls on the European Commission, using all available expertise, to develop and provide annual statistics on gender- based violence, including figures on how many women are killed annually by their partner or ex-partner, and how many sons or daughters are killed and/or affected by the consequences of the violence suffered by their parents or guardians, based on data fpromvided by the Member States. These statistics should give an overview of intrafamily violence in Europe and also take into account the new forms of family and marriage, such as contracts between persons of the same sex;
