Highlights the fact that, in the context of globalization, a more open international trade system produces differential impacts across European countries, affecting internal cohesion; calls on the need to expand and simplify the European Globalization Adjustment Fund as an instrument that helps fighting the negative effects of globalization; in addition, calls for the mobilisation of the relevant EU internal policies, such as support for innovation and SMEs, to accelerate restructuring and adaptation to new trade conditions in disadvantaged regions;
